SMART Goal 1
Undergraduate Competency:
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
SMART Goal:
By April 1, 2017, I will develop my ability to ask good questions in class and when I engage in problem solving assignments to help me focus on the right issues to be solved.
Progress/Plan:
I would be doing myself a disservice if I go through the next four years without having a paradigm shift and it can only be done by questioning everything and challenging the status-quo. I will prepare for classes by thinking of questions I can ask during the class. I will ask questions in a larger class setting, and in private with my professor.
SMART Goal 2
Undergraduate Competency:
Agility and Adaptability
SMART Goal:
By April 1, 2017, I will adjust to the different expectations of different instructors by meeting with them during their office hours to clarify expectations and receive feedback on assignments to help me be successful during the year.
Progress/Plan:
I realized that I sometimes resist change and that alarmed me because adapting to new environments and dealing with change are essential in today’s world. It will also help me foster a growth mindset by accepting change and to stop fearing it. It will help become more flexible and adaptable which are important skills that employers always look for.
SMART Goal 3
Undergraduate Competency:
Communication Skills
SMART Goal:
By April 2017, use class presentations as an opportunity to practice basic presentation skills and avoid using filler words such as “uhms” and “ahs” by replacing them with a pause whenever I present.
Progress/Plan:
I will tell my professors that this is an area I’m working on and ask for pointed and specific feedback to help me continuously improve.
The ability to articulate myself confidently to different audiences and in a concise manner will help me with my future career.
