MBTI

I think that the MBTI STEP II report provided me with a thorough analysis of my preferences and personality type. My type came out to be ESFP (Extraversion, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving). I think that the Extraversion and Feeling preferences describe me accurately because I'm more energized when I’m around people and I enjoy participating in social activities. I also tend to lean more towards my feelings when I make decisions rather than taking a logical approach.

At first I took the report to be a definite result of my personality type, but as I analyzed it and after our in-class discussions, I started to question whether I have a preference for Sensing and Perceiving. As I delved into understanding my profile, I realized that my preferences can change depending on my context. For example, when it comes to my academic work or career I tend to be very systematic and planful. I like to follow a schedule plan ahead of time and be organized which is why I think that Judging is more of my preference. I can see the Perceiving preference in my social life where I take a more casual approach to things and can be more spontaneous. However, I still have to plan and schedule certain things to feel in control. Similarly, I believe that when it comes to absorbing information I lean towards Intuition more than Sensing. This is because I am attracted to the abstract and enjoy analyzing and ‘reading between the lines’ as opposed to concrete facts and realities. After debriefing the results and discussing it with some of my classmates I came to the conclusion that the ENFJ “house” is where I choose to live, and a more accurate description of my personality.

I found a lot of similarities between my MBTI preferences, LTM results and Values Perspective. The common theme is that I am friendly, curious, always seek meaning in what I do and strive for a positive work environment. I learned from my MBTI preference that I get my energy from interacting with people which is in line with being a Type One learner where I learn best in group settings. In terms of MBTI and my Values perspective I see a connection between my values of empowering others and kindness in my Feeling preference where I am more empathic and compassionate towards others

I believe that my strengths stem from my Extroversion and Feeling preferences. My ability to connect with other, be persuasive, and rally people to work together in cohesion is something that I take pride in. For example, in my Marketing Fundamentals class, I strived to create harmony between all my team members by involving everyone and dividing work based on strengths and individual interest. I also think that my compassion, kindness, and empathy values are key Feeling characteristics that allow me to establish connection with those around me. I see these strengths play out in group work settings especially when it comes to team dynamics. I leverage my Extroversion and Feeling preference to gain my teammates trust so that we can all work together in harmony to achieve our goals.

I learned from our MBTI class discussion that when it comes to resolving a conflicts it’s important to cater my communication style to fit the opposite type's needs. As an ENFJ I think that my strengths would come from asking questions to find out what the issue is and to try to resolve it in an amicable way. It’s important to try to understand how others perceive their reality and to energize my kindness value to communicate with them. This is a better approach to solving conflicts than to go for personal attacks and negative assumptions.
